In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, two national motorcycle festivals are held over the weeks around the Memorial Day Holiday. One festival is primarily white, the other is predominantly black. While bikers of both colors enjoy both festivals; the city, community and state view these two festivals vastly different creating a divide among the participants, business owners and residents.

Against the backdrop of the historical relevance of the area's segregated past, this documentary explores the opposing viewpoints on segregation and integration, mutual love of motorcycle culture, and racial tensions that reach a boiling point every spring in this southern beach mecca.

Ricky Kelly
director/producer/writer

Ricky is a lifelong lover of documentary film and now is an emerging filmmaker in his own right. He attended St. Augustine University of Raleigh NC and majored in Communications. Currently working towards a Certificate in Documentary Arts from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.

A loving husband and father, he has waited nearly 25 years to tell a story of events that will capture the hearts of many. In the process, he has been able to sit at the round table and be a voice for the people as well as suggest resolutions to resolve issues related inequality and racism that created tensions that has now exploded to violence in many of our communities across the states.

Ricky hopes Black Beach/White Beach: A Tale of Two Beaches will bring awareness and education to the community on systemic racism and inequality that exist in Myrtle Beach S.C.
